CS100 Clearance
Bombardier’s CS100 has gained Transport Canada and European Aviation Safety Agency approval for steep approach operations, clearing the way for the aircraft to be operated into airports with challenging shorter runways. The clearance followed a series of demonstration fiights at London City Airport in the spring. Swiss intends to put the CS100 onto its LCY route later this year. Mark Broadbent
E190 Arrives at Airlink
South African Airlink has received its first Embraer E190 regional jet (N193NC, c/n 19000193) at OR Tambo International Airport. It was previously operated by Virgin Australia between 2011 and 2016 before being taken over by Nordic Aviation Capital. It was delivered to South Africa from Nashville, Tennessee via Iceland, Macedonia, Egypt and Uganda. SA Airlink in January 2017 announced an order for three Embraer E170s and two E190s from Embraer subsidiary ECC Leasing as it expands its fleet, becoming the first South African E-Jet operator. More Anti-Poaching Aircraft
The Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) has allocated Sh14 billion (US$3.8 million) for a helicopter and a fixed wing aircraft and Sh200 million (US$54,000) for two UAVs for use in Uganda’s protected areas. The aircraft would be used for surveillance, animal counts, search and rescue, game capture and antipoaching activities. In the last financial year, the UWA seized five tonnes of ivory, giving an idea of the scale of poaching in the country. Guy Martin
