Heathrow is operating at 99% capacity, but it is a little too close to West London’s leafy suburbs for expansion plans to sit well with its neighbours. (Key- Andy Martin)

The British Government has finally decided to support the construction of an additional runway at London Heathrow, although it seems unlikely Members of Parliament will vote on the determination before the autumn of 2017. Heathrow Airport will be able to apply for a Development Consent Order – the mechanism for obtaining permission for Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects – but only after that hurdle has been overcome.
