LUFTHANSA COULD be set to acquire elements of airberlin after entering talks with its troubled German rival. Negotiations, which are believed to be focused on air freight offshoot Leisure Cargo, Austrian subsidiary Niki and German regional carrier Luftfahrtgesellschaft Walter (LGW), come just weeks after airberlin filed for insolvency. The ailing German carrier, which posted a €782m loss last year, filed to commence proceedings under selfadministration at the Berlin-Charlottenburg District Court on August 15 as it continues to push ahead with its restructuring programme.
