Did the VLJs just come and go ?

I am a bit annoyed that the small ( very lite jet ) bizjet concept sorta did not see brighter future.

Eclipse 400 did not succeed; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eclipse_400

Eclipse500 did not fair much better;http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eclipse_500

INSERT from latter;
Some aircrew flying the aircraft have been critical of the Eclipse 500, its systems and frequent failures. One corporate pilot who is captain type-rated in several FAR 121 and 135 aircraft and who has extensive flight hours on the Eclipse 500 said:

When I have to fly the Eclipse, I am on the edge of my seat waiting for the next disaster to take place. For instance, I've been flying for over 30 years and have never had to go on emergency oxygen, except during routine training. Since flying the Eclipse, I've had to go on emergency oxygen twice now due to fumes in the cockpit and in the cabin. Eclipse seemingly has no idea how to fix these aircraft problems. Flying at 41,000 feet, you don't have much time to deal with these continuous, on-going, very serious issues. All I know is that every time I've had to fly the Eclipse, I'm truly scared.[3]

Anyone care to comment on my MACH 0.98 VT-CRUZER ? Same scale with Eclipse400 ( and my diminutive mach 2 jet ).

I have tried to apply size reduction by squeezing the folks inside ( tilting the seat and moving the seats at different stages > loading and inflight ) a little tighter and shaping the fuselage more rectangularish...sorta blended body.

Many who use bizjets...most probably, want size and space.

I can't imagine anyone wanting to be squeezed into that

Small jets like the Phenom are about the smallest practical size.

A single engine also limits over water use...engines till can and do fail

As I see it the Eclipse500 is a twin as is my canard..Eclipse400 was a single engine machine.

Could it be that the small PW610 engines on 500 are a tad too weak..both are pretty slow.

I was figuring this VT-Cruzer could fly 900 km/h at FL 400 for 3600 km without refuelling and 1100 km/h around 2400 km.

It would be like sitting in a sail plane...comfortable enough when you get used to it.

Flying Oulu-Norilsk-Magadan-Nome-Regina-Charlottetown-Reykjavik-Oulu in less than 48 hours would beat the world record about 9 hrs.

I think that would be awesome sales certificate.

Here ios some serious tuning to it.

1950 nm range and 900 km/h cruise.

How do you fit all the flight controls, nav gear, aircon units etc. in such a small space and have something that's possible to service.

Still don't see how it's easy to get in and out of. People when they get older get still and often larger.

A so many in a small cramped space...toilets??

What about getting out quick in an emergency.

Where does the baggage go?

I just can't see a use for a jet this small.

GR !

You are right it is 10% too small as it is now.

Citation Mustang has similar engines and is double sized.

Idea is to go really fast for 3000 km dashes that you don't need to go to toilet.

Here is the latest version..CG problem solved....and toilet/lavatory that the Mustang doesn't have.

1200-2000 nm range at 500 ktas speed should do it.

I'm looking forward to a Cessna 172-class SE jet. It should be possible...after all a jet has fewer parts than a piston engine and can burn any decent fuel.
Do I expect to see one in the next 30 years? No, not really, but hope springs eternal.

I have no idea but I checked that there was a 16 seater "almost" VLJ once...SN601 Corvette.

Also YAK-40 and Boeing 737 sported 0.84 and 0.89 kN / soul. So my diminutive at 12 seater is 1.08 kN/soul powered.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A%C3%A9rospatiale_Corvette

VT-Cruzer sports much more wing area than Corvette yet is much smaller in overall size ( to be fast with smaller engines ).

Here is now what this smaller composite jet with similar amount of seats in VLJ size looks with bigger SN601 Corvette.

It is 41 % smaller but also has 41 % less output.

Cruzer wing loading is 220 kg/m2 vs 300 kg/m2 in SN601.
