Hi members. Does anyone have a favorite engine sound from a commercial aircraft, modern or old. Here are a few of mine. The old 747 100 srs with Pratt and Whitney engines as they climb out above you. The Vickers Viscount on take off and taxi The Vickers Vanguard on approach DC3 start up, take off. BAC 1-11 during start up Tristar during start up A310 with GE engines on approach Boeing 777 with GE90 engines on take off. whats yours ?

I've got a sound fix for the DC9 for some reason. I just love the whine! Also the RR Trents do one hell of a sound, inside anyway. One deep deep rumble, which for some reason makes it sound strong and secure. Don't ask me why lol!

I will forever remember the glorious roar that Concorde made every time she rocketed over my head at Heathrow departing to JFK. Simply unforgettable.

Agree with BMI-Star on the sound of the trents!!! But on GE powered Airbus A300,310 and Boeing 767 airplanes, they have a distinctive whine which make them sound good.......im loathed to say that because i think RR engines are the best you can get!!!!

I remember hearing the sound of the A380's Trent engines on a clip during a news cast! I had never heard anything like it! I have been, for some odd reason, craving to hear that sound again but I just haven't been able to locate another clip. Those engines sounded so powerful, it was mind boggling!

Nimrod, sounds incredibly powerful for a 4 non-AB engined aircraft derived from an airliner. I think its a really great unique sound!

If the VC10 can sneak into the commercial category (I never saw them in their BOAC days), they must take some beating. Seeing one depart from LBA's runway 14 whilst standing by the cemetery was an unforgettable experience. The same could be said of JAT's 707-320's if anyone can remember those. Present day, I'm lucky to live in Horsforth, and on a very still summers evening I love to hear a 757 on approach with engines at idle followed about 20 seconds later by the ethereal swirling and popping sound left by it's very strong vortex wake (OK I know this isn't an engine sound but it's still pretty special!!)

Gotta be a 777 GE90s or A 744 with RRs spooling up just as they reach N1 and then howl as it accelerates - goosebumps every time on that!

757's RB211 engines are very recognisable. love the sound from both inside it and outside. when i was at manchester few weeks ago, one took off and it was a beautiful sound. I'll also agree that concorde was super also

Aye - i have (somewhere!!) 2 videos i took at different times during the 80s / 90/s of concorde passing over my head at Manchester on takeoff - using 2 different video cameras. On both of them the picture goes completely wobbly for a second or so as it actually passes overhead and i have always attributed this to the sheer noise of the thing overloading the microphone !!!! Twas a loud beasty indeed. Michael PS not commercial, but my fave sound ever was always the delicious banshee yowl from the Vulcans intakes as it turned toward you at airshows.

A380 Trent900s have this kind of mixed sound, made of low frequency, background feline purring and medium to high frequency, powerfull, sweet sound of singing... :D A little bit comparable to Trent700, but more intense and powerfull. ;)

It's hard to beat a DC-6 in full song. The BAC 1,11 with water injection but without hushkit, made a great howling noise as it reached max power. Finally the P&W JT3D brings back the memories of all those 707's & DC-8's. S.B.
