Council considers airport sale
Members of Leeds City Council are to discuss a plan to sell all or part of their 40% stake in Leeds-Bradford Airport on Friday.
The move could net the city millions of pounds.

The airport is currently owned by five local authorities including Leeds - Bradford, Wakefield, Calderdale and Kirklees councils.

Andrew Carter, leader of Leeds City Council, said the other councils will reveal their position shortly.

'Successful airport'

A spokesman for the airport said: "The sale of the airport is purely a matter for the shareholders.

"Leeds-Bradford is an extremely successful airport, with seven new scheduled services and six new charter services due to commence this year.

"Our success will continue whatever the future ownership."

The airport currently serves 60 direct destinations and was used by more than 2.5 million passengers in 2005.
