This flight will be launched to accommodate the increasing market need for low fare travel links between the UK and Poland, the largest new EU country. The Katowice-Doncaster Sheffield is the 10th Wizz Air route between Poland and the UK and follows a number of recently opened lines including flights from Warsaw and Gdansk to Glasgow Prestwick and from Gdansk to Liverpool.

The flights between Katowice and Sheffield Doncaster will be operated three times a week initially starting on 19 September. Tickets are already on sale from GBP 19.99 (one-way, including taxes and charges) on the airline's website, wizzair.com or through the Wizz Air call centre on +48 22 351 94 99.

József Váradi, Chief Executive Officer of Wizz Air said: "We are proud to be the first airline to offer low fare flights to Doncaster Sheffield from Central and Eastern Europe. Now many more people from this region can easily discover new exciting places, like the beautiful royal city of Krakow or the unique Wieliczka Salt Mine, both in close vicinity of Katowice International Airport."

David Ryall, Managing Director of Robin Hood Airport said:
"We are delighted to welcome Wizz Air to Robin Hood Airport Doncaster Sheffield. Peel Airports' association with Wizz Air has been growing at Liverpool John Lennon Airport. Since the first Wizz services to Katowice commenced on 15 September 2004 with 6 flights per week, this has now doubled to 12 flights per week serving 3 destinations. The region will be actively marketed in Poland and we look forward to welcoming many inbound visitors. We are sure that the people of Yorkshire & the Humber, Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire & Lincolnshire will want to explore the delights of Poland through Robin Hood Airport from when the flights start in September."

Neville Dearden, Chief Executive at Doncaster Chamber of Commerce said:
"In collaboration with Chambers of Commerce in Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and those in South Yorkshire, Doncaster Chamber has been able to assess the importance of close links to Poland. The findings from this assessment via our Chambers have made us very aware of the importance of Polish skilled labour to many of our businesses. Around 30,000 Polish workers arrive in the UK each month and the development of this service between Katowice and Robin Hood Airport will make it easier for our businesses to benefit from this skilled labour resource. The excellent access between our regions and Poland will inevitably stimulate a sustainable inward tourism opportunity for us from which our hotels and attractions will benefit."

Dr Graham White, Consul of the Republic of Poland, Sheffield said:
"The Polish Consulate in Sheffield entirely supports the exciting news of direct flights between Poland and Robin Hood Airport. As well as supporting the ever growing Polish worker community in our region, this announcement carries with it the prospect of increased tourism, better access to higher education and increased trade links."

Has Centralwings ceased operations, Wizzair website fails to rule whether it is operating, however highlights the recent unannounced shedding of routes,

"Wizz Air offers free tickets (only taxes and charges are to be paid) on Katowice-Milan, Warsaw-Liverpool and the recently announced Katowice-Doncaster Sheffield routes to passengers who hold reservations on Centralwings' Warsaw-Milan, Wroclaw-Milan and Warsaw-Leeds Bradford flights which are unexpectedly discontinued by Centralwings this month."

"The sudden route cancellations by Centralwings tell me that the strong airlines are getting stronger and the weak ones are getting marginal. Wizz Air has been demonstrating its commitment to Poland and to stranded Polish travellers on numerous occasions. People can always count on us." - said József Váradi, Chief Executive Officer of Wizz Air."

Good news for Doncaster Sheffield Robin Hood Airport (:D)!
Centralwings haven't ceased service they've just dropped some routes, I believe to give the aircraft some downtime or something.

They pulled LBA because the Centralwings service was takeing passangers off Manchester's LOT service, so LOT wanted there planes back.
