Emirates ready for Perth landing

By Geoffrey Thomas

EMIRATES Airlines"first Boeing 777 flight to Perth is due to touch down at 5.25pm today, ending a five-year bid to attract the world's most awarded airline.

At the controls will be Perth-born Capt. Charlie Herman. Many of the flight attendants also are from Perth. The airline will fly four times a week to Dubai with connections to the Middle-East and Europe.

Getting Emirates to WA has cost the State Government $1.35 million over three years and it had to beat off a similar package from Queensland.

The Government expects the service to bring 1000 visitors a week to Perth, generating $47 million a year from tourism.

And there are incentives for Perth travellers to book with Emirates. The airline is running a promotion until August 7 with fares starting at $777 return to the Middle-East and $1777 to Europe and Africa.

The introductory fares are valid for travel until September 18. Fares are subject to seat and class availability and conditions apply.

Emirates"777 service leaves Perth every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday at 10.30pm and arrives in Dubai at 5.40am the next day.
