why 380?

Hi, I am probably the last airplane enthousiast in the world who doesn't know the answer yet, but can anyone give me a reason why they called the A3XX, A380 and not A350 which would be more loggical? thanx

RE: why 380? The only reason I can think of is that airbus has other planes in the pipelines to produce and call them the 350 360 370 sorry that is the only reason I can come up with
RE: why 380? Perhaps it has to do with the number of passengers it will be able to (eventually) transport. Aren't there some plans to make a 800+ pax version?

RE: why 380? I have heard the following theory about the name: number 8 is considered lucky number in the east and Airbus has customers in east and the market in the is also suitable for A3XX. I don't know about this. Maybe maybe not.
RE: why 380? The real reason for the 'A380' designation is that the '8' represents the so-called 'double-bubble' appearence of the cross section of this double-decker airliner - or so an Airbus report said...
