Holiday Airlines - Is their service up to scratch?

When I go on holiday i notice the service is really quite poor. I find the staff rude and the food is really not to be talked about. Does anyone find that service is much different on JMC Air, Airtours, Air 2000. I am aware that Air 2000 is also an individual airline.

RE: Holiday Airlines - Is their service up to scratch?

LAST EDITED ON 12-Jan-01 AT 11:59 PM (GMT)[p]Well personally, most of the Airlines that I have flown on have been top notch. I fly at least 3 times per year and have done so since being a kid. I went with Air Scandic to Ibiza in October as our Britannia 767 went tech' and I thought that they were a bit poor; the food was a bit lame and the pilot didn't say a thing over the intercom. Mind you, I find airline food to be of quite good quality when I fly places. I think though, that first impressions last. People used to say Dan-Air were rubbish (remember them?) but every time I flew with them, I thought they were great. The crew were really friendly and I usually used to get a look in the cockpit on each flight when I was a kid. I remember once, we were flying over the South of France towards Almeria in a 727 in 1987 and the pilot was explaining the INS and all the 'gubbins' to me. He was really informative and genuinely relished telling me about his aircraft. In fact I thought the flight were the best bits of the holidays!!! I even remember his name -Capt Andy Pankhurst- Now that's good service I think. What do other people remember about Dan-Air? Good? Bad? Indifferent? Thanks, Paul.

RE: Holiday Airlines - Is their service up to scratch?

I have been with all the major airlines to holiday but I have to said that to me Monarch airlines are the best they are every friendly also the food was alright for a charter but I think that the worsted has to be between Airtours and Air Europa they have been rude disgusting and the staff really terriable that is my personnally choice that i think cheers!!

RE: Holiday Airlines - Is their service up to scratch? MONARCH!!!

I flew for 9 hours with Monarch Airlines to the Dominican Republic back in 1999. I actually found them quite poor. We had one hot meal: no choice, e.g. beef or chicken and an hour or so before landing we had some sandwiches with NO crusts!!!

Britannia come top in my list! London Gatwick to Sandford in 1998, brilliant - WELL DONE BRITANNIA!

RE: Holiday Airlines - Is their service up to scratch? MONARCH!!!

I have flown with Monarch and I thought they were not the best charter airline I have flown with, but were OK. Airtours is perhaps the worst (in my opinion) as the staff were rather rude and the 757 we flew on was in need of a major overhaul.

Britannia I find very good, and when I flew to Kos I thought the staff were vert friendly and the 767 we flew on was immaculate.

Dan Air was a nice carrier and a lot of people remember them as they did have a friendly service. The only problem with them was the fact that some of their aircraft were on the wrong side of twenty years old. Do you remember their 727-100's??

I still have a soft spot for Air Europe. It is quite scary to think that it was nearly ten years ago when they went bankrupt.

RE: Holiday Airlines - Is their service up to scratch? MONARCH!!!

I think British charters are superior to any one from other nationalitiy. They set standards. The best one is without any doubt Monarch. The worst, JMC. For bad service, I say....British Midland and their....."only salad" for European flights for High fares. Dan Air was superb, I am a bit partial to it I have to confess. British Caledonian was a great airline, specially flying
the Bac 1-11 which is the finest ever built.

Anyway, the sacrifice is worthy. Crete is fantastic. Have a great time.

RE: Holiday Airlines - Is their service up to scratch?

I went Leeds/Bradford to Majorca last May with Brittania, night flights both ways, apaprt from the fact that i was shoehorned into my seat with god knows how many other passengers on a 737-800 the service was spot on and so was the food.

RE: Holiday Airlines - Is their service up to scratch?

That is really Bad! I flew JMC Dc-10 to POP last August as part of a package holiday. The films are rubbish, we were literally forced to watch Yellow Submarine if we could see a television screen. Both the DC-10s that JMC Air operate are in desperate need of some internal and external work. I was shocked at the state of the cabin which had ceiling hangning on by a thread, broken seats (my father was sitting with us and when the aircraft lined up on the runway ready for takeoff, he was moved because of the condition his seat was in). I wish you the best of luck, I went to Crete in 97 with Airtours Intl, they were top-notch back then, but I hope to see what they're like now very soon!

RE: Holiday Airlines - Is their service up to scratch?

I've heard a few horror stories about the JMC DC-10 fleet. They are due to be replaced by the A330-200 though, so we won't have to put up with those dirty old tri-jets for too much longer. I'm not too concerned about the aircraft we are flying on when we go to Crete in Sep, the JMC 757 fleet is very young, so they should be quite clean (hopefully).

RE: Holiday Airlines - Is their service up to scratch?

Well I have been doing my own little survey regarding holiday
charter airlines one of the the big five are
1 Brittainna biggest with more than 30 airplanes 767,757,737
2 Jmc Air has 28 airplanes 757,320,DC10,due to be replaced this may with 757-300 toe of them
3 Air 2000 27 airplanes 767,757,320,321
4 Airtours 25 767,757,330,320,321,DC10 replacing this aircraft this year
5 Monarch 22 aircrafts 757,320,321,330,300,DC10 five 321 on orderdue too be here this year
Also done a fleet as too the age of each airline and JMc has the youngest and Air 2000 has the oldest also delays Britainna come out close only 5% in front of JMC but the worsted was Airtours if anyone has any info regarding these issues please put on the forum as still ongoing with this survery cheers

RE: Holiday Airlines - Is their service up to scratch?

I have managed to fly a lot of charter airlines over the years. I have found them all to be relatively good except the odd delay but what does one expect when trying to get to a destination with every other airline flying there too. All I want to do is get there safely and pretty much to schedule. So what if the hostess is rude, perhaps you have done something or said something for them to be rude. Just switch off and go back to the movie or read a book. Leave the attitude at home?
