Definately not Steve, they were put together and flight tested at the bottom of my Aunts garden in Hatfield! well, over the fence at the HS airfield there anyway. I remember well one of the CAAC 3s having a very dramatic "hot start" one day:)

-Great images, thanks for sharing them. Favourite livery on a Trident for me is still the "Red Square" with Channel a close second ( the square would have looked great on a T3) I was told many years ago by an ex HS employee that there was a huge model of a Trident 2 in Olympic livery at the plant...hope someone kept it safe. Neil, have just visited the ZK website-brilliant. Reminds me very much of the 10yrs or so I spent involved with the restoration at Duxford of Britannia G-AOVT. Very well done with the Trident...almost as pretty as a Tu154:)

-trident 1e's
Hi all here are a few "Classic" shots of me old favorite aircraft in various liverys from the past, enjoy.:)
Northeast 1E
Air Ceylon 1E
Kuwait Airways 1E
Iraqi Airways 1E
Channel Airways 1E-140
BKS 1E
PIA 1E
I think thats the 1E's covered.i will add more if asked.:)
thanks for the 1e pics they r great,
i flew many times on BKS, CHANNEL, NORTHEAST, and BA the on 1e's
i worked in 1974 onwards to charter northeast tridents to swans tours london from LHR to fly to sunny med places mostly at weekends,
we had 117 seats in them.
channel put 139 in theirs lol!
i flew on all 4 tridents g-avya/b/c/d often and g-aswu
i flew LGW-DBV on a northeast 1e in summer 1972 as BCAL had lost a 1-11 g-awsy at corfu in an overun (it was repaired) then i flew the wardair 727 on the return flight which was a hoot!
subcharters were always fun!
likewise when g-avyd was w/o at bilbao in a bad landing BA gave us some VC10's to play with and we flew them down to alicante and malaga which i rode on a few times...std and super VC10's were used and i was lucky to go on both!
the tower guy at malaga had never seen a VC10 before when we arrived !
aaaaaah those were the days eh?:)
my first BIG jet was on a 707-399C of caledonian from LGW to palma and back in summer 1969 g-awwd out and g-avka back flagship bonnie scotland,
the flying time was 1hr 35 mins... erm no fuel issues then lol!
i remember getting off at PMI and we were surrounded by UK holiday jets,
BKS and channel tridents, autair 1-11's which were all new and very posh!
comets galore and britannias and viscounts as well
plus loadsa foreign jets from scandinavia holland and germany
i was in heaven lol
oh and the 707 had 189 huge thick comfy economy seats with lotsa legroom,
so wot happened ? how come i am now cramped in like a battery chicken when i fly steerage now??

-Lovely, just lovely....
I was lucky enough to fly on the Tridents just before they finally phased them out - on one of the "Glasgow Shuttle" flights as was. Some people said they were noisy, I said they had character ;). One of my work colleague at the time was lucky enough to be on board a Trident which had to do a "worst condition" autoland (sorry, I can't remember the old autoland categorisation) at Heathrow and all pax aboard were offerred commemorative "Autoland" ties as a result.
Of course, autoland is nothing very special these days..... but it isn't so long ago that Tridents were pretty much the only type that could operate (into suitably equipped airports) while everything else was fog-bound.

-This is spooky.....
I have a picture somewhere, almost exactly the same as your first Channel Islands one...at the old Manchester...when it was still truly called Ringway.
Taken in the days when you could walk along the top of the piers, that one being the International pier.
Nowthen if that's a CL44 in the overnight bay it is highly likely to be one of Loftleider's. If it's a Britt, highly likely to be one of Monarch's.
I suspect the picture was 1971 or 72?
I also suspect that on the South Side there, that's a Heron. I can't remember who's, but it was a white livery with a blue cheat line.

-Was there any reason why BEA tridents had there wings painted in red? Was this just part of the livery and did BEA do this to any other a/c type?
By: 18th October 2008 at 23:49 Permalink - Edited 1st January 1970 at 01:00
-It was the livery of the time and most, if not all, types in the fleet had it - 1-11s. Vanguards, Viscounts and Comets among others.
