BA v Quantas

Interesting flight to NZ and back just before Christmas. Went BA and Quantas as they have until recently been code sharing. Both of these flights were on 747-400. The two longest flights sectors being to Bangkok outward and Singapore homeward. I was amazed at the difference between these two major carriers. The outward BA flight was great, with very good food and service and the cabin staff were very professional. The leg room was fine also. Quantas, however, left a great deal to be desired. The service was patchy and the cabin staff seemed disorganized and to my mind too laid back. The food, when we finaly got it, was terrible. The seating was pitched much closer than the BA flight and was very uncomfortable indeed. If airlines share the same code and charge the same prices I would have thought that everything else would be equal, obviously not. I heard on my return to the UK that BA have withdrawn from the code sharing agreement with Quantas, I wonder why? I know many people knock BA for one reason or another, but I've flown BA on long haul, European and domestic over many years now and have never so far had a bad flight with them.

BA are still codesharing with all of their OneWorld partners, including Qantas. On the one hand it does offer people more choice, however to regular BA customers they will be disapointed with nearly all of the options available to them except AA, and CX. When booking a flight with BA it does tell you relatively clearly who operates the flight. If you want to go with Qantas fine, but like Foxmoth says, if you want the BA service, then make sure the flight is operated by BA.

I found it to be the exact same. I flew BA from LHR to LAX and found them to be excellent, I then flew LAX to AKL with Qantas and found them a bit too relaxed and the IFE wasn't to the same standard as BA.

Wow, surprising to read this. I felt the absolute opposite after my trip last May. BA was an absolute joke in my opinion. The cabin crew just didn't seem to care, and service was very laid back. Qantas on the other hand was fantastic, lovely food, friendly and professional cabin crew, and an all round excellent service. Would certainly choose to fly them again if I was given the chance.

I flew on from SIN with Australian, what a difference considering both airlines are in the same stable. Could it be that QF cc consider themselves Prima Donna and the minions on AO try harder.? Both experiences were akin to chalk and cheese - AO served the cheese and QF the chalk.. IMHO :(

I flew AO from SIN, and was too very impressed with them. Certainly higher than my expectations. I couldn't really notice a difference in the two, other than on QF I obviously had a better IFE as it was long-haul on a 744. Other than the obvious differences (1 flight being 2 hours, the other 11 hours) I could fault neither.

Ive flown to Australia 3 times, every time with BA / Qantas I found both to be excellent, as was the Qantas internal flights, the economy seats we had on a couple of sectors had legroom like business class, Ive been on a Qantas 742, 747-sp, and 744 in Wunala colours on the long sectors and found them to be = to BA, the 747-sp was rather cold by the window though. We flew BA on the way back on every trip, no complaints whatsoever, I will definately "look after our own" when booking to go again. Dean.

I guess this goes to show... no matter what airlines do, there will always be pax who are not happy and pax who are happy with the service rendered. Can't win em all

I suppose when it comes down to it each individual flight is a bit of a lottery where the service and crew are concerned. Everyone has their off days but I suppose there are times when nearly all the cabin crew have a synchronised off day. Occasionally it seems to coincide with my travel arrangements.

I asked a girl in my year who's an Aussie and she said that she was thouroughly pleased with QANTAS' service. As Sandy says. Some pax are happy and some are not.
