Air Newcastle to re-brand

Air Newcastle, the Newcastle International Airport based virtual airline is to re-brand under the new name of Vigor Airways effective immediately. Chief Executive Lee Lambert today announced the move to the industry following a very agonising yet creative consultation period. No immediate changes to Air Newcastle flight operations are expected as a result.

The new image and name will allow the airline to focus on expansion plans away from the Newcastle area and will include a new look to aircraft, air and ground staff and to its corporate website in the coming weeks.

“Our aim is to be as innovative with our product as possible but many people associated Air Newcastle with high cost regional flying from Newcastle only - and that just isn’t us” commented Lambert in today’s press conference. The industry expects the airline to announce its intention to operate scheduled flights from a second UK airport as a result of the move.

In other news, Vigor Airways announced it has placed an order with Pegasus Leasing for the delivery of 8 (eight) Airbus A320 family aircraft to join the fleet between January and April this year. The new deliveries will initially allow for the return of the airlines Boeing 737-800 fleet to their owners and to also allow for new route expansion as part of a 6 month growth plan.

Prior to the name change, Air Newcastle operated a fleet of four Boeing 737 aircraft to Amsterdam, Bergen, Brussels, Copenhagen, Cork, Dublin, Geneva, Gothenburg, Ibiza, Madrid, Milan, Paris, Prague, Reykjavik and Rome airports from its Newcastle base.
