Do read the story again. It happened at 1900hrs and was "getting dark". It's still pretty much daylight at 7pm here in East Anglia.

Sorry, didn't read it at all.
On the video at 00.26, "......we had our lights on and were a big target..........."
00.45, "....at anchor off Deal in the dark..........."
00.55, ".....if no one had seen him ditch....."(due darkness)
it also said 1900 ish, poor reporting, they didn't know the exact time he ditched.
Soooooo, what was he doing tooling around in the dark then......

-If it was about 19:00 BST then as said above, it would be dusk so usually the wind dies down in the evening and microlights pop out at dusk like balloons :)
or maybe he was coming back from france ?

-there are multiple reasons 1900 is far from dark there could have been mechanical problems
the report said he was shouting down !!
never trust the news media to report anything correctly !!
