Alan was also a pilot and owned both fixed wing (Cirrus) and helicopter. Sad news indeed.

Without commenting on this crash specifically.... Tour and charter flights in less developed parts of the world are a bit riskier than hopping an Airbus/Boeing to Paris... My sister-in-law was on safari when one of the engines on her King Air decided to quit (pretty rare for a PT-6). On her vacations she's constantly flying in GA helicopters and fixed-wing ac going to out-of-the-way resorts and attractions. Let's hope that's the extent of her bad luck.
