Says they had to be 'cut from the wreckage' , seems a drastic outcome for a landing with stuck gear!?

Think that is 'journalese' as it was apparantly a fairly routine emergency landing without much drama.

You'll probably find that is true. The Fuselage probably deformed on landing and jammed the door so they had to cut it open.
