So what kind of food do most of the people out here like ?

I personally prefer Indian food from the North.

Going east I like the Thai stuff.

My favourite continental dish is something called Schweinsacksse ( spelling ) German for Pork knuckles served with fries and washed down with litres of beer. Fish and chips is another favourite.

RE: Cuisine ?

In no particular order ...

Japanese food - lived there for three years.
Fish & Chips - virtually grew up on it in NZ.
Curry - Hot Indian and Sweet Japanese especially.
Chinese - doesn't everyone...
Steak - A real good T-bone or Scotch fillet!
Italian - All kinds..

Regards, Glenn.

RE: Cuisine ?

Nothing quite as tasty as Good old British Roast Beef and Yorkshire Pudding... lol, not!

Nothing beats chips and curry sauce but with the French Fries being American/French and curry being Chinese/Indian(?) I couldnt say where it comes from!

RE: Cuisine ?

I would say its british T5 as:
1-Our chips are big and full of potatoe unlike the small measly chips you get in the US and France!
2-The curry sauce is not actually Indian infact nothing much that you get at an Indian is Indian cuisine at all!The only thing Indian about them is there names.Kabir do you get chicken vindaloo over there?

RE: Cuisine ?

so we do have a half-decent national dish then... fish and chips is okay, but i don't eat fish, so it's not so good for me.

roast beef and yorkshire pudding is extremely british and such a boring dish.

RE: Cuisine ?

Living in a country where food is an state of art, I enjoy cooking. My personal tastes go for all vegetarian meals, fish and pasta. Ethnic food with intense flavour, french Haute Cuisine, british desserts, South American food and everything except meat. I hate fast food (why food should be fast). I usually buy an International cook book everytime I travel abroad and usually cook at home when I get bored.

I like Thai, Japanese, Soul, Mexican, Greek and last but not least French. My favorite single dish would have to be roasted rack of lamb along with everything that goes with that.

RE: Cuisine ?

I was going to ask this, but you beat me to it!!!
I like Italian - pasta, meat, fish etc.
Chinese - spring rolls, chow mein, fried rice.
Thai - yellow, red and green curry.
Japanese - tempura.
British - any.
American - buffalo chicken wings
Mexican - fajitas and enchiladas without beans.
French - seafood.
Icelandic - seafood.
Finnish - lovely salmon and perch.
Indian - mild curry, samosas, tikkas and anything which does not contain lentils.
Belgian - mussels in garlic butter (not the "natuur" variety which are boring as hell). Chips (best in the world). Whole plaice, not like the thin scrags served in the UK. Ice creams. Waffles, especially with hot cherries and cream. Kidneys in jenever with juniper berries (yum). Belgian beers except Orval and Duvel. Carbonade flamande (Flemish beef stew, often cooked in beer).

RE: Cuisine ?

In a way you are right SAAB, what passes of as indian food in the west is by and large a poor imitation of Indian food, both in variety and taste ( I dont mean to generalise, there are great Indian restraunts in Europe and the US ).

There are mind boggling variations, with each state having its own distinct cuisine. To make it more palatable for Western tongues Indian food in the west is a bit bland. If you want to taste the real McCoy try genuine "Andhra" food. Man I assure you there will be steam coming out of your ears.

Chicken Vindaloo comes from Goa.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 13-04-02 AT 09:20 PM (GMT)]Indian food is really nice, but it hurts going to the toilet afterwarts.

My favourites :

A nice pasta with salmon and a creamy sauce
Trout with cooked patatoes, plus a nice greek salad
Mussels are also nice, but you should also try snails : yummie,
Tomates- aux-crevetes (tomatoes stuffed with shrimps and mayonaise).

Worst food : anything served on an airline.

I still think that fish & chips with mushy peas, plenty of salt and vinegar bein eaten while sat on the beach at at a british beach resort like Blackpool on one of those rare days when the weather is nice, is the best meal you could ever have.

Oh, and make sure you have a can of coke for after, that's a necessity.
