Malaysia Defence Minister told reporter that most of major defence programs which were halted due to 1997 economic crisis will be put back on track.He disclosed this during the DSA 2002 held in Malaysia recently.Among of the major programs that were indentified are multi roles strike a/c,AEW&C,helos,UAV,submarines,air defence systems and main battle tank.Most of the shortlisted companies gave their best to present their products at the defence exhibition.Among others,SUKHOI,BOIENG,SAAB,ERICCSON,LOCKHEED,EUROCOPTER,DENEL,DCN,GNG,ALVIS, and AGUSTA-WESTLAND.Malaysia also signed various defence contract at the exhibition:jJERNAS and IGLA air defence systems,VICKERS MLC90 tactical bridge,CNIM tact. floating bridge,advanced assault craft from TEXTRON MARINE(to be built locally),further order of 24,000 locally made STYER AUG(110,000 supplied earlier)and some classified stuffs(most probably spec ops gadgets).
