-Great pictures, thanks for sharing. Shame about the external exhibits (contrast with the Krakow museum pics), hopefully a good future can be arranged for these Eastern Bloc warriors.

-IAR93 - Romanian version of the Soko Galeb...
No, it's the Romanian version of the J22 Orao. The Orao was designed together by Romania and Yugoslavia, with both countries getting a production line.
The Galeb is a plank-winged jet trainer.

-Thanks for posting - nice to see the contents of these foreign museums.
Roger Smith.
PS wouldn't mind seeing that stored Yak-23 in a UK museum.

-I love the scheme, but is that camoflage on the IAR-80 supposed to "hide" it or make it a target?

-Very nice. Looks like things have moved around a bit since I was there 2 or 3 years ago. I don't remember the Mig 29 from my visit.
At the time it had only recently moved from the airport and wasn't fully open, they even had to get someone to unlock the main building for us!

A day off during a work trip to Bucharest allowed a visit to the Muzeul Aviatiei in Bucharest, Romania. Great collection of aircraft. The aircraft indoors are in excellent condition; those outside are starting to suffer. The museum is under threat of closure as property developers want the land but there is no money to do anything else with the collection. The Romanians are very proud of their aviation heritage and rightly so and it would be a great shame if this colllection was split up. This is the collection that was at Otopeni airport previously.
