Farewell Sir Bernard Lovell. Died today aged 98. Head of the team that built H2S. Bomber Command's ground scanning radar.
He also had a lot to do with this, at one time the worlds largest steerable
(is that a word) radio telescope.

-Many moons (sorry about the pun) ago. He designed a couple of light detectors that were placed on a stand at Old Trafford cricket ground.
They allowed everyone to see the degree of light change based on a given reading rather than just on an umpires hunch.
He also has an ATC waypoint named after him in the locality.
Yet another genuis of the old school has passed on and will be greatly missed.

-Not to mention his contribution of the Cavity magnetron towards the humble Microwave oven. Your spirit lives on sir in my kitchen......
