On The gnat Display Team theme - i've put up a video from the Gnat Display Team's Open Day held last Saturday. Although only analogue and just under 19 minutes, I think it gives a flavour of the day. I'll be posting a shorter edit of the aircraft action soon for those with less time to spare!

Gnat Display Team Open Day Saturday 25 October

The Gnat Display Team were lucky to have a decent day on Saturday after so much bad weather and high winds. G-MOUR and the Strikemaster were positioned near the Squadron when the OPen Day began.

The Jet Provost Mark 3, G-BKOU, also did a sortie for circuit consolidation followed by a first solo on type

Gnat 3-ship

The afternoon had the three Gnats departing in a formation take-off with the Strikemaster acting as a camera ship. Its callsign was 'Kodak'. It took off first so it could run in as the Gnats were taking off.

When they taxied back they shut down on the Squadron taxiway so everyone could get a close look. Thanks to everyone who took time to come along.

It was a very busy day for those of us working in the Tower, with 190 movements to deal with. One was an L4 Cub visiting from Biggin Hill, which provided a nice counterpoint to all the jet activity.

Yes some lovely photos of the classic jets. Surprised no one else has commented on the single seat Gnat that will be returning to the air which I believe would make it unique as a flier, certainly in the UK anyway. Can't wait to see that one finished and airborne!

Is there any news on the progress being made on the Hawker Tempest?

My question remains unanswered :-(

The owner has requested that there is no publicity about the project, so you will just have to be patient!

Very much seconded, it's certainly something to look forward to. Is this example one of the exported, British-built examples or is she Indian built?

Indian-built, according to the team now, but possibly assembled from British components.

There's no room next to the Hastings! ;)

Plus NAM opted not to pursue them several years ago, when they we offered for disposal.
