North Weald has seen its fair share of warbirds and exotics come and go either by air or container.
I remember the days of seeing the Hellcat, Wildcat and Corsair together in the Mysterious Flying A Services Hanger.

What ever happened to the Hurricane that was being restored in the hanger that the Gnats now live in ?

Yes!! I remember that day too.
That was a very rare occurrence in deed! In fact just to see the hanger doors open was rare enough !
The more I think about it the way Flying A Services operates is pretty cool.

No one really knows what they have got or where it's is. But out of the blue airframes will appear on the market. P47G, Spitfire etc
I wonder what aircraft is next to make an appearance from their vaults ?

The S.E.5 I hope.

Wouldn't it be nice if the (aptly-named) Mystery Ship were to make an appearance too!

What aircraft is the mystery ship?

Edited

I know what it is now :)
Does Flying A Services have one of them?

There are a couple of SE5 engines underway at the moment in the U.K so I wouldn't be supprised if the Flying A machine makes a return to the sky.

A bit of a catch-up from this week. On Wednesday evening we got a very nice fly-by from the BBMF Dakota up and down the main runway.

On Friday a Scout arrived from Lee-on-Solent for maintenance, the Napps Field Stearman paid us one of its regular visits, the Singapore Strikemaster was out for its monthly engine run and the Hunter T7, Fox 1, departed to Cambridge for the weekend. It will be displaying at Shuttleworth on Sunday.

Just looking at old pictures of the Fighter meet Airshows back in the day.
See the Northwest 747 flying with loads of fighters. The good old days :)

I think a petition needs to be started to reinstate the Fighter Meet airshows :)

Great to see pics of the Scout. I have some fond memories of flying in them.

I think the resident aeroplanes would make a great start to a yearly North Weald show, the place cries out for it ! I am sure Peter Teichman could rattle a few cages.

I remember one Fighter Meet where the weather got so bad that the Harrier was the only aircraft which could display in sight of the crowd. After which the display was cancelled. We don't even have Harriers now...
But also good times too.

North Weald is still a great venue for an Air show. Just a shame that it got to expensive to run.
Realistically you would need some people who are not shy of a few quid to run it.

The line up just made up of the resident aircraft would be better then some air shows at the moment.
And with some visiting aircraft too it would be like the fighter meets of old.

IIRC it was Stansted that ruined & curtailed the Fighter Meets. There was a fab airshow in '99 that was arranged by John Hutchinson, it was Miss Demeanour & the Breitling Fighters 1st appearances in public. An amazing solo P-51 display by Mark Hanna.

Was that the Airshow where the Hunters flew in formation with the Gnats ?

Also a problem with distracting drivers on MII.
