I've been looking at a picture of a lancaster NE172 6O-T who has served in the 582 sqn in the year 1944. This has crashed not far from my hometown De Panne - Adinkerke (Belgium) on 14-15 June 1944. In 1996 I've found the crash place due to found relics of the Lanc & some local research. Last week, I had contact with 1 of the relatives of WO / AG W/O Walter SMITH DFC ServiceN┬░ 1483335 who was aboard, who died with his crew unfortunately in the crash and is buried in Koksijde. The family is looking after a picture of Walter Smith, or the Lancaster or the crew. Could you help me in this quest? Any other info is also welcome.

I have been researching another aircraft from 582 Sqn - ED908 60-Z - shot down on 20 July 1944. I have found photographs of 582 Sqn aircraft very difficult to find. I wish you luck with your research. I have several pictures of Little Staughton airfield as it is today, but again very few of it during its wartime use.

You might find the attached Roll of Honour of interest.
