By: 8th October 2004 at 16:56 Permalink - Edited 1st January 1970 at 01:00
-my guesses,
1, hunter
2 whirlwind (helicopter)
3 first thought, landrover 11b (but have decided it isn't, on second thoughts i think it may be a thornycroft.

-Bugger - wrong image. Yes I know its a duckling BUT SO CUTE. It should have been as landyman guessed right another picture of a Whirlwind taken from the otherside of the airframe. Now only the first image to ID. Oh, and landyman is also right about the fire engines. Yes, it's not a Land Rover?????? But what type of Thorncroft is it?

-First one looks a bit Canberra-ish to me...

-Steve Young GO to the head of the class (even though the Whirlwind was the more difficult to ID). But what about the fire engine....

-First one definatly not a Hunter. Canberra?

HATE YOU
 Okay, so I got it wrong  - it does appear to be an early Wessex. But I was told otherwise, by the owner. Then again he forgot he also owned a bit of a canberra.
Oh, the fire engine is a RAF Fire Service DP1 (1950s vintage and one of only four or five in preservation). I'm a TACR1/2 fan myself...

-From memory the Canberra is B.6(M) WH946 which was formerly with the Bomber County Museum at Cleethorpes and the Wessex is an anonymous HAS.1 from the same group. They arrived at the scrapyard after the group quit Cleethorpes. Approaches have been made over the bomb for East Kirby
but have been unsuccessful so far.

It certainly is, because it's a WESSEX! :(

-Sorry all, I know this is very, very old.
I was just talking to Blue2 about the aircraft collection that was once on the old Zoo site at Cleethorpes. I thought I would do search to see what I could find out about what aircraft were there.
So there were a Wessex and Canberra. Are they still at the site mentioned on this thread ?
This site http://www.flightglobal.com/pdfarchive/view/1977/1977%20-%201122.html mentions an Auster, 2 x Messengers, Gemini and Dragonfly at its previous incarnation at Elsham Hall Gardens.
I seem to remember having a photograph taken sitting on the wing of a Vampire, though I could be wrong, I cant have been older than five at the time.
What other aircraft were in the collection ?
Did some go to the Bomber County Museum ?
Where are the aircraft now ?
Did anybody else visit the Cleethorpes collection ?
Any pics around ?
Cheers
Ben

-Didn't notice the date on this thread at first and was very surprised to see one of Steve Young's posts appear. It is five years this month since he died. It must be a mark of the man that although the years have flown by the memories haven't faded at all.

-My sincere apologies for dragging up this thread. What can I say, I just did not notice his post. No disrespect intended.

I visited North Lincolnshire yesterday (Thursday) to photograph a fire engine, which was bought by the Manston Fire Museum for £100 (originally £25 on ebay). Afterwhich we visited a nearby scrapyard, where the following two airframes were spotted - anyone want to guess what they are ?
