I thought that the first public display with the team's new Hawk aircraft was at Episkopi in Cyprus on 10 March 1980 following their winter training and return to Kemble, later that month

I remember seeing the Reds at Rhoose / Cardiff Wales Airport in what I thought was their first season on Hawks. It was certainly the first time I saw the new aeroplanes. My dad was in the Royal Observer Corps, and their underground post was on the edge of the airport. Next to it was a wartime concrete observation post, up on stilts. This was where we were watching the show from! The Reds approached from behind us, and took us by surprise. Pretty sure we ducked... That was when I first noticed the white arrow on the undersides!
