1909 Flight Magazines

A chap at work told me he had some old aircraft magazines, and asked if I would take a look at them. What I hadn't expected was that he would turn up with volumes 1 and 2 of Flight Magazine dated 1909 !!

While these are obviously quite rare, they are too early to be of interest to me and so I would welcome comments.

The answer to your first question is yes, they are up for sale.

Thanks,

Roy.

*BUMP*

I can't believe that nobody on this forum is interested in these!

Had they been 1950's issues I'd have jumped on them.

Sadly, it looks like these will be heading to the USA unless there's some British interest.

I thought this was the Historic forumm, not PRE-Historic ;)

Actually, I already have a few copies of Flight from the same period and whilst I share your sentiments WV, I keep mine just as 'curios'!

Seems unusual that no-one wants a couple of bound volumes though (mine are single). Sadly, I'm not putting in an off though.

Have you tried contacting Nick Forder at the Museum of Science and Industry in Manchester? He may well be very interested in these and, if so, would ensure that they are in the public domain.

According to their on-line collections search they don't have any (yet).
Roy - I've sent a PM.

On Ebay

The owner of these has today informed me that he'll be listing them on Ebay on Thursday May 24th. His Ebay name is "johnthepara".

Best of luck to all who are interested in bidding.

As an ex employee Blue robin you never found out? :D

As a present employee though I dont know the answer. I know they have a cracking archive of pictures which some of the chaps in our office have been putting on the company www. Also have been adding some cracking cutaway drawings from over the years.

I would point you to this link. Oh its Vickers Viscounts. Wonder why I should try and drum up some followers on that type

Either way even if your not a fan of the magazine I highly recommend a peek in the above mentioned areas. For the historics fan there is some cracking stuff.

Hmm I cant imagine why you would post a link to a Viscount, probably the same reason why Id do the same with a Cranberry link. Very gratuitous but has to be done LoL Oh thanks for that great link Martin, am having a good look as I type :p  :diablo: Bex

Happily ex-employee of the Rugby branch ;) I started today on the DA42 toward my MEP rating... :)

What with Aeroplane going over to IPC etc aiui the archive is fragmented. Thing is though any donation back to them (RBI) would have to be teased out into the public domain.

Well up untill now Ive been good I dont think Ive ever endulged in gratuitous Phantom or Viscount links.

I see you even got a Canberra mention in that post Bex. You just cant help yourself can you. I may start a swear box for you. Everyime you mention the Canberra in a non canberra thread you can put a pound in the Viscount restoration kitty.

Good luck with the DA42 Blue Robin. If its what I think it is a nice bit of kit and very racey looking as well. Are we likely to be seeing you at Nando's anytime soon matey?

Apparently John (the mags owner) contacted Flight's office and met with no interest whatsoever.

Canberra, Phantom, Viscount, Sea Hawk, Britannia. (I didn't want to be left out :diablo: )

Big day tomorrow with a crane arriving at 9am to hopefully help us join the front of Britannia G-ANCF to her wing. Wish us luck please folks, this is going to be a real brown trousers day. :o

Not surprising really (but it depends on who you spoke to) as they are pretty much concentrating in getting the next issue out.

PP need to finish my CPL before they will let me out on a weekday! The DA42 has a surprising single-engine performance for only a 135hp diesel.

As a new user I read this thread and realised that I have a box of my fathers flight magazines, it says they are complete 1910 to 1912 but I haven't checked. I know some of them are a bit tatty but a lot aren't. I don't know if anyone has any idea what to do with them?

Thanks
Ralph

If there's no emotional attachment to them sell them on ebay or via an auction house like Dominic Winter (but state the reserve you want).....they're all scanned online at FlightGlobal archive but you might like to check with Flight if they have any missing pages in their 1910-1912 scans

Hi Longshot
Thanks for that, you got any contacts for flight magazine at all? Google doesn't.

Thanks

Ralph

Hi Barbara

Thanks for the info. Not sure if they are worth much though.
I will take it all on board. Thanks for your help.
