That's a good looking Flogger. I'm more into the MLD than the BN, but is still nice looking. The BN should have evolved swivelling hard points under each wing and moved away from armor towards sensory. The airframe was multi role, but the actual variants never were multipurpose. Too bad they are fading out their usefulness fast this past decade. One of my favorite 3rd gens.

Same.
Keep in mind by the 80s the USSR gave up on the original intention for the MiG-23BN/MiG-27 and Su-17 variants to be fighter-bombers (due to Teen fighters), so the multirole ability really was only a title. MiG-27K did have a more dedicated ground attack sensor suit (Kaira), but that abandoned in favor of cheaper Klen.

The lighting in your picture and the background are so surreal. They make a picture definitive of the thread title.

Speaking of the devil... this is one of the last Tomcats that flew on a combat mission. Photo was taken on February 25, 2006, aboard the CVN-71 TR.
I always loved this bird, and though I like the superbug, it's really sad too see decks of the US CVN's without it.

Isn't that a MiG-27 as opposed to a MiG-23BN?
