Russian MOD to order ( or have ordered? translation is not clear) 20 An-70:

Speaking of the Su-35S's, my understanding of the news regarding the formal transfer is that they will be transferred to their units in the "near future", which can mean anything from a few days to weeks ( it is unclear if those from Akthubinsk will be relocated as well). Probably there's still some last minute tests and checks to be done.

Incidentally, have no idea how accurate, but some on russian fora mentioned about the Su-35S's being expected at Dzemgi. (?)

All i have heard about in earlier articles is that they will be sent to Lipetsk, which makes sense, kind of like they did with Su-34's.

PS: Regarding the 20 An-70's, they havent been ordered yet. Nothing is signed.

"Taking into account the development of the whole aircraft family on the basis of Il-76MD-90A (including advanced tanker aircraft), we believe that the order backlog for these jets will reach 1 trillion rubles soon", - Viktor Livanov said.

New MiG-31?

I have never seen the pylon arrangement like this on a MiG-31. Could this be new, or even a new wing? Note the new mirror on top of the pilot's canopy.

That is upgraded MiG-31BM.

The 4 small pylons are an easy way of IDing it. Btw, the periscope has always been on the 31s.

Yes, that is MiG-31BM, and for a good while that one in particular was a b!tch for me. :) I am keeping list of BM frames, and that one lacked in a long string of frames.

There are also several others details that are different on MiG-31BM, but pylons are a give away. They are able to carry R-73 now, and soon enough, RVV-BD (R-37M).

TR1, he was referring to the triangle, which is as he is saying, a mirror.

Does the MiG-31BM have a glass cockpit? I remember hearing that it did somewhere.

No, it does not. It does however have a bunch of new LCD MFDs, three in the rear seat, one or two for the pilot. Many analogue gauges are retained though, so a partial glass cockpit, maybe?

Sorry for noob question, but wht role does the guy in the "backseat" have?
Simmilar to the RIO in the F-14?

qestion no2: On average, how manny flight hours per year do the Foxhound jocks get nowadays? (I assume they are prioritised over the "regular" Mig-29 regiments)?

Nice photos of Mig-31BM cockpits. I was expected that back seat operator have three LCDs, but have only two.

Is it true the back-seater is the aircraft commander?
