hornet picture request:
a long time ago as a youth
the Hornet was just being tested and there were two in completely white color.
one that was white with blue tipped tail, and the other with red tipped tail. these must've been prototypes or something
but I can't find it. googling prototype f/a-18 just gets me the YF-17, which it is not.
here's a small picture of the red one

Hmmm... Mabey you should put F-18 into F/A-18 prototype. I got a little bit of photos from the SuperHornet/Hormet prototypes. Here's a Super Hornet prototype with Red and White colors during its flight testing around 1998.

thanks just putting f-18 was better.
was quite nice when it first came out.. then quite envious when our neighboring country got some hornets and we were stuck with crap.

No prob Y-20, just helping around ya know ;). Anyways they bought some Hornets beacuse they were cheaper, maintainable and reliable to operate. I just can't belive no Supers have been ordered lately, i mean com'on seriously? The older legacy Hornets are too old and not suited for the 21st century war. But the Super Hornet hasn't been that successful in the aircraft market industry. I guess they'll buy them old Hornets. Member when the Marines said they'll get some Supers? Then they said they were worried about the Supers operational cost so they said that they'll stick with the Hornet not the Super Hornet. :( But the Marines are going to get their lagacys replaced buy the F-35 Strike Fighter with its STOVL version. But although the Super Hornet is competing into Brasils FX-2 program which are the finals, Rafale, Eurofighter, Super Hornet, and Gripen NG. So we'll see what happens tommarrow or July.

Spudman,
Fox-4 is a play on words relating to the F-4 Phantom. It'a also my signature, and thus in every post I make. It has nothing to do with anything I've posted in this thread....

um...
Fox4 is cannons :)
I think you meant Fox3 which is an Active AAM. :)
Though I will say that I have heard of "fox-4" being a term for guns, I'll say that it's not a brevity term that I have ever heard used before (I think it might have been like a Cold War era bomber thing). In training, we use "trigger down......snap" for a gun snapshot, or "pipper's on....tracking" for a steady tracking shot. In combat, it would just be the "splash"/kill call.

So god is Finnish?
Would make sense though considering Santa is Finnish, living in Rovaniemi where F-18s are based :D

I recall that Fox-3 is the missile code for the AIM-54 Phoenix Missile.
Brevity code "Fox Three" is used when firing the AIM-54
