I'd be more fond of a symmetrical splinter pattern than an asymmetrical one, but I'm glad they went for a subtle grey and black scheme. I wonder if they are just trialling it out or if this will become the new standard scheme.

I'd put my money on an one-off specialized airshow scheme. Kind of like the specialized paintwork for the PLA parades. I don't expect to see it in actual combat units.

Maybe, that said I don't think we've ever seen custom paint schemes for aircraft during parades before, only for land/any equipment. I think they might just be trialling it.

those dont exist, it is supposed to be asymmetrical to break up lines. this is camouflage, not a painting

Getting ready for Zhuhai 2016: Notice the weapons-bay design. Its deeper in the middle. Likely for larger A-to-G munitions. http://i988.photobucket.com/albums/af8/My-Military-Photos/PRC/Air/J-20/J20_113.jpg http://i988.photobucket.com/albums/af8/My-Military-Photos/PRC/Air/J-20/J20_112.jpg http://i988.photobucket.com/albums/af8/My-Military-Photos/PRC/Air/J-20/J20_99.jpg http://i988.photobucket.com/albums/af8/My-Military-Photos/PRC/Air/J-20/J20_100.jpg http://i988.photobucket.com/albums/af8/My-Military-Photos/PRC/Air/J-20/J20_101.jpg http://i988.photobucket.com/albums/af8/My-Military-Photos/PRC/Air/J-20/J20_102.jpg http://i988.photobucket.com/albums/af8/My-Military-Photos/PRC/Air/J-20/J20_103.jpg http://i988.photobucket.com/albums/af8/My-Military-Photos/PRC/Air/J-20/J20_104.jpg http://i988.photobucket.com/albums/af8/My-Military-Photos/PRC/Air/J-20/J20_105.jpg http://i988.photobucket.com/albums/af8/My-Military-Photos/PRC/Air/J-20/J20_106.jpg http://i988.photobucket.com/albums/af8/My-Military-Photos/PRC/Air/J-20/J20_107.jpg http://i988.photobucket.com/albums/af8/My-Military-Photos/PRC/Air/J-20/J20_108.jpg http://i988.photobucket.com/albums/af8/My-Military-Photos/PRC/Air/J-20/J20_109.jpg http://i988.photobucket.com/albums/af8/My-Military-Photos/PRC/Air/J-20/J20_110.jpg http://i988.photobucket.com/albums/af8/My-Military-Photos/PRC/Air/J-20/J20_111.jpg

So the front fuselage and canards must generate a lot of lift? Its wings are way back than normal.

I still think the Chinese are tricking everyone into believing that the jet is ready for mass production and commissioning. They will probably make a few copies and fly them around a bit and claim that its in service. While they still do a couple years of leg work behind the scenes

Not necessarily. The deeper middle is where the ejector racks and the AAM fins go. Same as F-22.

I wonder if the Pak-Fa will ever open its weapons bay doors. J-20 did it in flight and have yet to see the Pak-Fa do it while static.
IIRC it flew with open bays as far back as 2014 (from when that 'performance achieved to date' slide dates). Also it reportedly launched its first missile this year - just because we didn't see it, doesn't mean it didn't happen. In any case, the work done on the modified Su-47 with its PAK-FA bay mock-up probably meant that there was no need to rush such tests.

What's the fairing next to the Luneberg lens on the underside fuselage?

But the russians love to stage a lot of their military for the populace. They have Pak-Fa doing all sorts of stuff in the air showing off to the world how great their aircraft is but they don't video its weapons bay opening? Come on now! That is not the russian way. I'm probably in the majority when i say, if there's no pics or video it didn't happen. I don't know what the big deal is...they are just weapons bay. Just one pic or short vid is all it takes.
