The duration of examination of the project of future military Airbus
A400M, decided by the new Portuguese government, should not be long and does not constitute a questioning of the project, judged Thursday the French Minister for Defense.
The Portuguese Minister for Defense Paulo Portas wrote last week with its counterparts of the seven other countries partners to inform them that Portugal wanted to re-examine its participation in the project.
"We wish that this re-examination be able to lead to the confirmation of Portugal in this program" and that will be done "within the deadlines, allowing us the continuation of the program", declared the spokesman of the ministry for Defense, Jean-François Bureau. "I don't think that this examination will be long", and "it is a legitimate re-examination because the new Portuguese Minister for Defense took its functions very recently", it added.
The Portugal plans to order 3 A400M.
The transmission of a firm control for the A400M to the manufacturer could be notified after the agreement of Portugal.
