Reports also suggest that the Russian radar houses are working on AESA designs, although details remain very sketchy. Any Russian design would have to make use of imported GaAs MMIC chips as Russia's industry lags severely in this area. A likely outcome is that COTS GaAs MMICs would be adapted for a Russian design, as the export controls on high volume X-band satellite transceiver chips are likely to be unenforcable over the coming decade. A suitcase of GaAs MMIC chips makes for a lot of AESAs.

OKB: Phazotron NIIR
Zhuk-MSF is the most up to date radar design by Phazotron. Sokol uses a non-equidistant rather than the traditional linear radar field distribution, which, Phazotron says, allows a fivefold radar cost reduction over a traditionally designed phased array radar. The production radar will have a 980mm antenna diameter (37dB gain) and weigh 275kg. The radar tracks 24-30 targets, engages the most dangerous 6 to 8 of them. Its electronic beam steering will give ±70 deg spatial coverage in both axes. Power output is 8kW peak, 2 - 3kW average. It is designed for high reliability, and is frequency agile with LPI and anti ECM features. Phazotron says it will be capable of interleaving between air-to-air and air-to-ground modes.

Range-while-search, lookup mode: 180-190km head-on / 80km tail-on vs fighter target.

Range-while-search, lookdown mode : 170km head-on / 60km tail-on vs fighter target.

Track-while-scan mode: 150km head-on vs fighter target.

Against a large target such as a bomber or AWACS aircraft detection range comfortably exceeds 300km.

Isn't the NIIR Zhuk-MSF/Sokol 3 very much comparable to the NIIP N011M ?

Also, I'm still wondering.. since there is no certainty.. which radar is going to be put on the Su-27SM? The original N001 plus upgrades or the N011M?

N011M will be put on the SMs, as it appears the N011M is already in service on Indian Su-30MKIs and because they seem to preffer NIIR's designs since they were always better than NIIP's

Someone can clarify if the solid-state stuffs mentioned is actually abt the aesa.

In the mid-1980s, Salyut launched developmental work on the Podberyozovik-E radar and some time later, a number of solid-state C-band radar systems were developed.
