bdmilitary, I understand that Bangladesh has purchased many planes from China but how often do F-7 are put to the air?

They have been very busy lately but they are flown quite often along with the MiG-29's and other aircraft.

The new J-7G's that they purchased recently are referred to as F-7GB's as far as I know. :)

An Angolan MiG-21bis erroneously flown to Namibia 14 in December of 1988 by its defecting pilot.

The pilot of the Angolan MiG-21, Lt. Vinez made an error and flew on an incorrect heading flying southwards and getting lost whilst flying through thick clouds. After running out of fuel he made a forced landing on a farm near Otjiwarongo(Namibia), during which the nose wheel and left main wheel was torn off. Lt. Vinez did not defect ! Lt. Vinez was exchanged for Sgt Papenfus who was being held as a POW in Cuba.

Attached is a picture of a MiG-21 from Madagascar.

The red flash, serials and insignias are genuine but the grey color and "wing 3" logo on fin are added recently.

Definitely within that time period, Dan: it wasn't really a "deal" so much as related to geo-politics and "regime change". Maybe one of the Guys here with more local knowledge of the TNI-AU or South-East Asia can confirm, but I think Indonesia stopped ops on the MiG-21F-13 in 1967? Off the top of my head this lead to them going from 1960's Fishbed ops to being an F-51 user (MAP-supplied in 1970).

Does anyone know how the Indonesian Fishbed happened to finish-up in the Brussels museum (from 1992, IIRC)? I have more than one source suggesting this passed-on to the US. The one in the TTF at Nellis (Arthur prefers "Petting Zoo"!!) is also reported as being from the same batch. Definitely an area needing some more work....!

Here's the TTF one I mentioned above:

Steve ~ Touchdown-News

Indonesian MiG-21 last flight was conducted in 1970, while the farewell flight was as early as in 1967. There's no exact record how many were brought to US but some eyewitnesses said "some" were loaded into USAF C-141 in 1970-73 (no exact date or year), but definitely before the arrival of ex US' T-33.

Among others which brought to outside Indonesia, the only serials known are F-2156, located in Suitland, MD, US (no futher info); F-2157, now in Brussel museum, Belgium.

AURI's MiG-21 left in Indonesia are F-2160, F-2164, F-2158, and F-2167.

BTW, the Indonesian MiG-21 F-2164 photos shown is mine, but my name was cropped...
