QuantumFX, if you're referring to the skid marks on the deck, denoting possible flight ops, yep I noticed ;).
Also notice how the politician visiting the ship (isn't that their president?) is dressed like a Bond villain :diablo:.
Yeah the Chinese took up after Ming, the Merciless from the planet Mongo too. Or how about how alien invaders in movies back in the 1950s all had slanted almond eyes. Or how about Klingons all had Fu Manchu mustaches and the Chinese stole their names too.

I agree she's given a nice interior. As for the rest of your statement: seeing as she was delivered without functioning propulsion (not nececcarily without engines!), whether or not this was reinstated (or possible to reinstate) was a legitimate issue. Especially since propulsion is internal, and for a long time there was no visual evidence of any changes in propulsion. Prior to sailing, only exhaust plumes suggested there was (we've seen no pics of machine room etc.)

She has a very handsome level of interior fit out, and to think people here on this forum said with such certainty that it wouldn't even be able to move out under its own power!
Not me... I've mentioned before that when news of the sale to a "Chinese Entertainment Company for use as a floating casino" came out, my closest ex-military friends and I immediately agreed that she WOULD see service in the PLAN... despite the part of the contract forbidding her from being made operational!
The facts (that were mentioned in the press at the time) that the head of the purchasing company was an ex-PLAN officer, and that at least one active-duty PLAN Admiral was on its board of directors made it clear that this was a "shell" company, and that the purchase was, from the start, on behalf of the PLAN!
The only thing that has been surprising to me is that they took this long to get the project done!
By the way... the Chinese never do anything "by accident" with something as publicly visible as this vessel... I specifically refer to the announced hull number of 16.
CV-16 was USS Lexington, which served as the USN's main training carrier from 29 December 1962 to 8 November 1991.

i think they waited with the ship itself for some time as the air wing wouldnt be ready. if one remembers, refurbishment of varyag started around 2005 or so. at the same time talks with russia concerning su33 sale went on, probably fell apart in 2008., when all the hoopla about illegal j11b started and media reported on the su33 sale not going through in early 2009., though realistically chinese must've known it wouldn't go through even a year earlier, if not more.
Around 2008, incidentally, work on varyag slowed down. there was like a two year hiatus during which very little was done. then a few years later suddenly we have j15 prototype and refurbishment of varyag continuing.
To me it is clear the ship waited for j15 programme. If there wasn't for the broken su33 sale we'd probably see the entire program being finished 2 years earlier.

Well I think the initial work done on her was more about stabilising the hull and protecting it from further corrosion. They rather quickly pulled her into a dry dock for a paint after she arrived and clearly gutted out lots of junk as well going on the early pictures dockside.

I dont know what chinese did to her or because it is "fresh" new but it looks way better than Kuznetsov. At this point it would be interesting to know smth more about powerplant,Comand and control.
Question what's all that water on the flight deck and pouring from it?Is it some sort of anti fire measure or the steep turn caused it?
