I think he is more interested in military equipment, budgeting and exercises than any other leader in this world. and he pick aides who are interested in this work. If he is not interested in military equipment than why associate his name with some thing that is not going to get any vote or create alot of employment relative to investment.

In June 2012, President Vladimir Putin announced the need for a development programme for UAVs. He supported ‘a range of all types, including automated strike aircraft, reconnaissance and other types.’ The term ‘drone’ was not used. Russians refer to a bespilotnyi samolet (‘plane without a pilot’). It was revealed that Russia intends to spend around 400 billion roubles or $13 billion in the next eight years on development.

Are the state defense procurement contracts being fulfilled as planned? Have all the necessary contracts been signed with the defense enterprises?
Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin, Chairman of the Government’s Military Industrial Commission, said during his recent meeting with President Vladimir Putin that to date, 94.3% of the defense orders had been placed. They met in late November, so I think the remaining orders will be placed by the end of the year.

Wow, that is surprising.
According to the article, the propulsion assemblies from the Burnyy have already arrived at Kirovenergomash (who overhauled the Vikras turbines, which functioned flawlessly during trials). They will be repaired and delivered to Dalezavod, where the Burnyy has been tied up since 2005.

He really doesn't have an indepth knowledge of military equipment, and I don't think he is that interested in their specifics either.
From what I remember, correct me if I'm wrong, but when he was stationed in Dresden Putin was part of the KGB section dealing with intelligence on Western military technology. I'm not sure he's as naive as he sometimes comes across.
Anyway, if you're a Russian/Soviet leader and you're not interested in the military you're an idiot. The fact is that the armed forces are guarantors of just about every aspect of the Russian/Soviet state, including its existence.

Any news about Admiral Kharlamov or Admiral Nakhimov? Are they currently actively been repaired and modernizationed? I Have not read anything about Admiral Kharlamov for years even though she is a relatively new ship in comparison to other Udaloys. Yet, she has been inactive since 2006.

In late 2012, we signed a contract to upgrade the power plant destroyer "rapid" in the Far East, is now on the way for at least another destroyer, actively cooperate with the "Sevmash" to supply spare parts kit for the Indian aircraft carrier and look forward to working with the "Baltic Plant" icebreaker on topic. http://www.interfax-russia.ru/NorthWest/exclusives.asp?id=380726

I just read in a Brazilian defense site that the newspaper IZVESTIA reported that Russia will build a new destroyer type in the range of 12000 tons, that will serve , among other missions, for escort of the new Mistrals.

Is there any available image of that project?
No. The developer proposes pr.21956, but the military found it irrelevant.

I'm not surprised - the sensors are a bit outdated for a design intended to enter service years in the future. However, the hull (based on the Udaloy) would at least make a better basis for a true destroyer than the Gorshkov class, which can trace its roots back to the comparatively tiny Krivak hull! If they put a more elaborate and powerful version of the Gorshkov sensor suite and armament in that ship and updated its propulsion system it would be a perfectly credible solution!

Ukrainian Defense Ministry seeks partner countries sharing an unfinished missile cruiser of Project 1164 (former cruiser "Ukraine"). This was announced by Deputy Defense Minister Alexander Oleinik, the "Ukrinform".
"The question is being worked with many countries, including the Russian Federation, on the possible joint use of the cruiser for the future. Simple question. You know that Ukraine is working on it for over 10 years" - said A.Oleynik.
I wonder what kind of ship sharing partnership is Ukraine looking for? They should make her as a rental cruiser? Then they could make ads like Rent a cruiser for two months and you get an extra month for free. That would be something. But seriously how would "joint use of a cruiser" work between multiple countries? I wonder what those other countries are?

Main Command of the Russian Navy began work on creating the ship to fight with low noise non-nuclear submarines like the German Project 212/214 with hydrogen engines, the newspaper "Izvestia", noting that the decision of the Commander in Chief Viktor Chirkov ship should be ready to start in 2017 .
The basis is taken unfinished housing frigate "Fog" Project 11 540 (lead ship "Yaroslav the Wise"), which the building stopped in 1990 due to lack of funding. Housing is at the wall in the Kaliningrad shipyard "Yantar", and finish it on the revised draft, the source of "News" in the Main Command.
