A-7 Corsair II: The Swashbuckling SLUF

Some babies have a face that only a mother could love but when the ‘mother’ of this aircraft was the graceful and beautiful F-8 Crusader, what on earth went wrong with the stubby, portly A-7 Corsair II? Comedians would suggest that ‘someone stepped on the blueprints’ of the Vought A-7, while others have called the aircraft the ‘Short, Little, Ugly Fella’, a politically acceptable version of its ‘SLUF’ acronym.
