9/11 remembered: How the four flights unfolded

The September 11 attacks of 2001 were an event that changed aviation forever. On the 20th anniversary, Key.Aero looks back at those fateful flights

Twenty years ago today, on September 11, 2001, 19 men affiliated with militant Islamist group al-Qaeda hijacked four airliners.

Under clear blue skies, two of those jets were crashed into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York, while a third impacted the side of the Pentagon, headquarters of the United States Department of Defense, while a fourth – which was destined for the White House or Capitol Building – was brought down in a field in Pennsylvania.
