ACI forms partnership to support airport safety management

The APEX programme provides facilities with the assistance needed through peer reviews

Airports Council International (ACI) World and insurance broker and risk management firm, Gallagher Aerospace have signed a cooperation agreement to help enhance operational safety within the industry.

Both organisations will collaborate as the sector prepares to recover from the pandemic. Members will be able to access the Airport Excellence (APEX) Programme.

ACI’s initiative has been in operation since 2012 and helps enhance levels of safety management through peer reviews.

“This initiative with our World Business Partner Gallagher is a prime example of how the industry benefits from being proactive in forging new partnerships to find solutions that can help support airports during the restart and recovery,” said Luis Felipe de Oliveira, ACI World director general.

“Air transport has always been an industry based on the interdependence of all its parts and, to forge a strong recovery, we are going to need collaborative action on a scale not seen before.”

Airports that are also insured through Gallagher, can access an APEX in safety review. Working alongside risk management and consulting firm, Sirius Aviation, the council will be able to offer guidance and assistance in implementing the plan given following the assessment.

Sandra Lonsbury, managing director of Sirius Aviation, added: “We are delighted to work together with ACI and Gallagher to enhance safety and risk management within the industry. In this extremely challenging time, managing safety and risk is even more important than ever, and Sirius Aviation is honoured to be associated with industry icons for the betterment of airport operations.”
