Argentina remembers

Falklands War anniversary

The Argentine Air Force recently commemorated the 37th anniversary of its baptism of fire – the 1982 conflict in the Falklands, known in Argentina as the Malvinas War. Esteban G Brea reports from Buenos Aires province.

One of the four Fightinghawks deployed to Tandil for the ceremony bids farewell to the VI Brigada Aérea with a low-altitude flyby. The jet then returned to its home base at the V Brigada Aérea – the so-called ‘hawks’ cradle’.

The ceremony was held at the VI Brigada Aérea (6th Air Brigade), in the city of Tandil, in Buenos Aires province. The date, May 1, recalled the first time the Fuerza Aérea Argentina (FAA, Argentine Air Force) entered combat with a foreign power – the UK.
