One of the iconic aircraft of World War Two is undoubtedly the Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress. It first saw action with the RAF as described here, but is more well-known due to mass use by the United States Army Air Forces.

BOEING FORTRESSES have been reaching Great Britain from America in a steady stream for some months past. They have been flown across the Atlantic, and at least one squadron of them is now on active service with the Royal Air Force. More squadrons are being formed.
