Back to Basics: Stage 1 - Lesson 11

This issue we put all our skills together and try to convince a check pilot that we really deserve to receive our Private Pilot Licence putting you through your final checkride…

One last thing

One final thing we will introduce before heading off for the PPL flight test is runway markings. While this may seem like a strange thing for sim pilots to have to be aware of, you will see that these airfield markings can in effect be like traffic wardens and ensure that we stay where we are supposed to be and not where we shouldn’t. Also, many scenery addons do incorporate them (if you look closely) and you don’t want to one day arrive at an unfamiliar airfield and embarrass yourself!

We can divide these markings into three broad groups: those you will find on the taxiway, those on the runway and those you will only see from the air. Okay, we’re all familiar with the yellow taxiway centreline marking and it’s not rocket science. But how many times have you unknowingly taxied right past a holding point?
