Balkan Holidays Celebrates 40 years at Cardiff

TOUR OPERATOR Balkan Holidays has marked the 40th anniversary of taking holidaymakers to Bulgaria from the Welsh capital.

The firm launched flights from Cardiff Airport in 1979 and celebrated its ruby anniversary on September 1. Lucky passengers boarding the weekly flight to Bourgas were surprised at the gate with special anniversary cupcakes. Management from the airport also presented the operator with a commemorative luggage tag to mark the occasion.

Deb Bowen Rees, CEO of Cardiff Airport, said: “It’s fantastic to celebrate the 40th anniversary with Balkan Holidays; it is a really important milestone for both Cardiff Airport and the tour operator. The charter routes are highly popular with local holidaymakers, offering a great value-for-money summer holiday. We look forward to flying passengers between Bulgaria and Cardiff in the years to come.”

Louise Newton, head of marketing and PR at Balkan Holidays, added: “We’re excited to celebrate such an important occasion. So many have flown with us from Cardiff and it is a pleasure to arrange holidays from Wales’ national airport. We look forward to the next 40 years.” (Photo Cardiff Airport)
