Swiss carrier Helvetic Airways has recently retired a trusty old workhorse as well as welcoming a shiny new arrival. Jessica Bannister-Pearce was lucky enough to be there for both.

The maiden Embraer E190-E2 for Helvetic Airways was delivered to Zürich via Recife/ Guararapes–Gilberto Freyre and Gran Canaria.

From a purely economic perspective, retiring older aircraft usually improves the bottom line. Look beyond the spreadsheets however, and the process can be emotional. For Helvetic Airways, saying goodbye to the Fokker F100 marked the end of a strategically significant relationship with the type – one that spanned more than a decade.
