Birmingham Airport achieves ACI health accreditation

The hub has implemented many safety measures since the outbreak of the pandemic

Birmingham Airport has been awarded the Airport Health Accreditation by the Airports Council International (ACI).

The certification was given to show the high standard of health and hygiene displayed at the facility. This is hoped to reassure customers that the necessary precautions are being taken to reduce health concerns.

As part of the ACI’s Covid-19 ‘For a Safer Journey’ programme, a number of safety measures were assessed. This included cleaning and disinfection, social distancing, employee protection, physical layout, passenger communications and terminal facilities.

After the council reviewed all the relevant evidence, it was decided that the airport’s measures aligned with the industry best practise.

“Through monitoring and continuous improvement, our commitment to safety is at the heart of our restart plans,” said Nick Barton, Birmingham Airport’s chief executive. “By constantly reviewing every aspect of the operation, including processes and procedures, infrastructure, employee wellbeing and safety culture, we can ensure that we continue to operate as a Covid-secure environment and are well prepared for the recovery, when it comes.”

Alongside the stringent hygiene measures, the midlands hub also offers free and rapid lateral flow tests to all on-site employees, with paid testing also available for passengers.
