E190-E2 beats targets

Embraer claims its new E190-E2 is exceeding its target specifications as service entry approaches for the new-generation regional jet. The company says final results from flight tests, which have involved three aircraft, showed the E190-E2 burned 1.3% less fuel than expected, or 17.3% less than the first-generation E190.

The Brazilian manufacturer also said the ICAO Stage IV noise limit for the E190-E2 is 20 EPNdB, up from 17 EPNdB on the firstgeneration aircraft. Range from hot-and-high airports will increase by 600 nautical miles (1,100km) compared to the firstgeneration aircraft and range from short-runway airports will increase by 1,000 nautical miles (1,852km). Embraer suggested the latter would enable sectors such as London City–Moscow.

Maintenance intervals have lengthened to 10,000 flight hours for basic checks and no calendar limit in typical E-Jets utilisation, an additional 15 days’ utilisation in a period of ten years compared to current generation E-Jets. Service entry of the E190-E2 is expected in April 2018. Mark Broadbent
