Elbit Systems to provide TF/TA systems for KF-X

Israeli-based Elbit Systems has announced that it has been awarded a contract by Hanwha Systems to provide Terrain Following/Terrain Avoidance (TF/TA) systems for the South Korea's KF-X next generation fighter.

The contract - worth $43m - was awarded on February 6 and will be performed over a six-year period.

Elbit Systems' TF/TA solution will enable the KF-X to manoeuvre safely at low-altitudes in harsh weather conditions with little to zero visibility by interfacing with the aircraft's autopilot system. The TF/TA software will combine data from a variety of onboard sensors and a digital terrain elevation database, along with flight performance characteristics to enable the aircraft to maintain an optimal altitude during missions.

Yoram Shmuely, executive vice president and general manager of Elbit Systems Aerospace Division, said: "We are proud to be in a position to increase the capabilities of air forces through joint development with Hanwha Systems."

The KF-X was unveiled at the Seoul ADEX 2019 trade show in South Korea and is scheduled to enter service with the Republic of Korea Air Force (ROKAF) in the late 2020s.
