We’ve covered a lot of first flights here on Key.Aero, but we’re not sure we’ve ever covered so many that took place on one date over the years. What is it with historic aviation and January 19?
January 19, 1923 – First flight of the Armstrong Whitworth Wolf
The Armstrong Whitworth Wolf was a trainer of revolutionary design built as a two- seater reconnaissance aircraft for the Royal Air Force. Although the air force never submitted a production order, six in total were built and proved to be popular amongst pilots as a training aeroplane. Unlike with pilots, the aeroplane was not popular amongst ground crew who felt its maintenance was too finnicky and complicated.
