As the fifth busiest airport in the world, LAX strives to provide the best possible passenger experience while ensuring safe and efficient operations. To meet ever-increasing demands, the Pacific hub is undertaking the largest modernisation programme in its history, as Ralph Olson reports from Los Angeles.
Ask any ‘Angeleno’ about their experience travelling to or from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and you are almost guaranteed to hear a tale of traffic nightmares. Not only is the queue to get into the airport complex often bumper to bumper, but within the terminal pick-up and drop-off points are cars, trucks, rent-a-car buses, hotel shuttles and taxis, all vying for prime position. This frantic scene plays out in front of weary passengers who have little choice but to sit and wait kerbside, staring at vehicles fighting for space.
