Miami Intl Airport

Gateway to the Caribbean

Miami is one of the most popular holiday destinations on the southeast coast of America and the subject of a long running TV show called Miami Vice (I’m sure those of you with just a tinge of grey in your hair will remember it).

It’s located on the Atlantic coast of Florida, with a population of roughly 5.5 million. It has the largest contingent of resident Cuban Americans, which earned it the nickname of the ‘Capital of Latin America’. In a similar vein because the port of Miami is one of the most popular cruise ship destinations, it has its own nickname: ‘The Cruise Capital of the World’. In 2008, Miami was ranked as the cleanest and richest city in the whole of the United States, primarily for its air quality, vast open green spaces, clean drinking water and clean streets. The city’s wealth comes mainly from the largest concentration of international banks in the country.
