With the holiday season behind us, we can now ask, did anyone watch The Great Escape over Christmas? Of course you did, as we said in our Alternative TV schedule feature, it’s a key ingredient of the yule tide TV schedule and always worth a watch, and if that wetted your appetite for more tales of a similar ilk, Paul Brickhill’s Escape – Or Die is a great place to start.
As you can see, our copy looks as though it’s older than God’s dog, but is actually a well-thumbed sixth edition, printed in 1955. The first edition was produced by Evans Bros Ltd in 1952 and then by PAN-Books Ltd in 1954. Pan reprinted it three more times in 1954 and twice in 1955. Which should give some indication of how well received these tales were, nearly a decade after the war.
